Heritage | Versant du Soleil | White water
Altitude 700 m – On the banks of the river Isère, the pretty town of Aime-la-Plagne is well worth discovering all year round. Accessible directly from the train station.
In winter, the peaceful commune of Aime-la-Plagne is a pleasant place for a stop over that you really should not miss on your way up to the high altitude sites, some twenty kilometres further on. Around its impressive thousand-year-old church, resplendent in the snow, Aime-la-Plagne is home to a wide range of artisans and enthusiastic retailers. On the south-facing side of the valley, the Versant du Soleil, two Nordic and leisure areas offer snowshoe trails, cross-country skiing, ski touring and fun zones.
In summer, it is time for white-water activities and a full programme of cultural events. Hotels, camp sites and mountain refuges offer a range of formulas for your choice of holiday. Every week during the summer, the amphitheatre comes alive with the ‘Jeudis d'Aime’ open-air concerts. Aime-la-Plagne also offers an exceptionally rich heritage, with places to visit as well as hiking and biking trails on the aptly named Versant du Soleil. To discover the legendary Isère river, you can try a rafting descent. White water swimming and canyoning are also proposed to anyone who wants to spice up the experience. To relax at the end of the day, the best local spot is definitely the Versants d’Aime leisure park with its refreshing lake and grassy banks.
All year round: the cheese cooperative and its 24 hour Beaufort cheese vending machine will delight cheese lovers. Every Thursday, the town centre comes alive with a market full of local flavours. As for the cultural programme, it follows the rhythm of the seasons in the outdoor amphitheatre or in the indoor theatre/cinema.
